Most Tanzanian companies that buy a ZKTeco fingerprint terminal discover the same thing within a month: the hardware is the easy part. The real question is which software turns those punches into attendance reports, leave balances, appraisals and audit-ready HR records. Here are the three realistic paths.
Disclosure: this site is operated by Ellertek Solutions, which builds WFA (about). Competitor details are from public vendor materials, checked July 2026.
Option 1 — ZKTeco's own software (BioTime / ZKBio Time.Net)
ZKTeco's BioTime is a web-based time-and-attendance platform that manages fleets of ZKTeco devices, with rosters, overtime rules, geofenced mobile punches and APIs for third-party payroll. ZKBio Time.Net is the lighter SME version.
Strengths: first-party device integration; mature attendance engine; API for payroll systems. Limits: it is attendance software, not HR software — leave workflows, appraisals, disciplinary cases and HR document management are outside its core scope. Licensing is typically sold per device/employee through resellers, and the interface is English-only.
Option 2 — Cloud HR suites (regional and global)
Regional platforms (e.g. Lenvica HRMS, which markets HR/payroll/attendance for Tanzania, and payroll specialists like Endeavour Tanzania) and global suites offer full HR functionality in the cloud.
Strengths: broad HR + payroll coverage; automatic updates; accessible anywhere. Limits: monthly per-employee USD/KES pricing accumulates; your HR data lives outside your building (a compliance concern for some employers); and everything depends on your internet connection — attendance devices must sync to the cloud, and an outage means HR stops.
Option 3 — WFA (Workforce Automation), offline-first, built in Tanzania
WFA is a full HR platform installed on your own server, running on your LAN with zero internet dependency: ZKTeco biometric attendance sync, leave requests and approvals, performance appraisals and KPIs, disciplinary case management with audit trails, employee records, reports and Excel export, and role-based access control. Three license tiers (Basic, Standard, Enterprise) are priced in TZS for African SMEs, with a 14-day free trial and local support from Dar es Salaam.

How to choose
- You only need attendance numbers exported to an existing payroll: BioTime does this well — it's the device maker's own tool.
- You're a distributed company with solid internet and want payroll bundled in the cloud: a cloud HR suite fits; budget for per-employee fees and check where your data is hosted.
- You want complete HR — attendance, leave, appraisals, discipline — that keeps working when the internet doesn't, with your data on your own server: that is precisely the gap WFA was built to fill for hotels, manufacturers, security companies, hospitals and growing SMEs with 10+ staff.
