If you run a hotel, casino, bank, hospital, sports bar or event venue in Tanzania, "digital signage software" searches will surface the same global names: Yodeck, OptiSigns, ScreenCloud and NoviSign. All four are capable products. But they were designed for markets with cheap, always-on internet, card payments and USD billing — three assumptions that break in many Tanzanian venues.

This comparison looks at what each platform actually costs and delivers for a buyer in Tanzania, alongside Ellertek LIVE, the locally built alternative. Disclosure: this site is operated by Ellertek Solutions — see our About page for how we handle competitor information. All competitor pricing below is from public vendor pricing pages and review platforms, checked July 2026. Confirm current pricing with each vendor before you buy.

Where the global platforms genuinely win

Honesty first: if you are a multi-country retail chain with reliable connectivity, card payment and a need for hundreds of content app integrations (weather, news feeds, Power BI dashboards, YouTube), the global platforms are mature, polished and well supported:

  • Yodeck is the value leader globally — around $8 per screen per month, and annual plans include a free Raspberry Pi-based player per screen. Excellent for straightforward menu boards and corporate comms.
  • OptiSigns starts around $9 per screen per month with one of the biggest app libraries in the industry.
  • ScreenCloud is the polished enterprise option (~$15–20 per screen per month) with strong dashboards and employee-comms features.
  • NoviSign offers solid interactive signage around the $10 per screen mark.

If that profile is you, buy one of them with confidence.

Where they break in Tanzania

Four practical problems come up again and again for East African buyers:

  1. The math flips at scale. Per-screen pricing looks cheap until you count screens. A venue with 12 screens on ScreenCloud pays roughly $200+ per month (over TZS 500,000) — every month, forever. Flat module pricing with unlimited screens is dramatically cheaper for screen-dense venues like casinos and hotels.
  2. Cloud-first means internet-first. Caching helps with playback, but management, scheduling and live updates need connectivity. When the fibre goes down mid-event, "the schedule will update when we're back online" is not an answer an MC or casino floor manager can use.
  3. Payment friction. USD card-billed subscriptions are genuinely difficult for many Tanzanian SMEs. None of the global four accepts M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa or Airtel Money.
  4. No live-event capability. Signage platforms rotate content. They do not run a jackpot draw, a raffle reveal with confetti, live audience voting, a fundraising thermometer or a queue — the moments Tanzanian venues actually monetise.

The local alternative: Ellertek LIVE (Event OS)

Ellertek LIVE was engineered in Dar es Salaam around exactly those four problems: it runs 100% offline on venue Wi-Fi or its own hotspot, turns one Windows PC into a controller for unlimited screens, is billed in TZS per module (signage from TZS 50,000/month — total, not per screen), accepts M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money and bank transfer, and is fully bilingual in Kiswahili and English. Beyond signage, its modules cover jackpot draws, winner reveals, live voting, queue management, scoreboards and harambee pledge tracking.

Trade-offs, stated plainly: it is venue/event-focused rather than a global content-app ecosystem, it runs from a Windows PC host, and support is strongest in East Africa. For a London office lobby, choose ScreenCloud. For a Dar es Salaam casino, hotel or event venue, the fit is hard to beat.
